Reason paused a moment. Back in the beginning, everyone had to prove themselves to the tribe – little things, like finding food or taking sentry duty, back when Castle Smoke was small and there was little threat from the other tribes. Later, Serenity had held elaborate ceremonies that involved drawing blood and tying hands together and such things. Since Seraphim had come into power, there had not only been fewer people coming, but also less ceremony. Seraphim would take them aside, and they would talk (Sometimes Seraphim would start shouting and Reason would worry herself stupid, but his methods seemed effective) and then that would be that.
But Seraphim was scarce and Reason had all the authority to accept Hail into the tribe, without or without Seraphim’s talking-too. She scratched the back of her neck, trying to remember how Rose joined the Cigarettes. Had Seraphim shouted that time? She thought not, but she sometimes tried not to remember.
“The fact you’re willing to risk life, limb and sanity against the fething Vampires is good enough hazing for me,” she grinned.

- "Sounds great. The hesistant get nowhere in life, so I say it's better to do something and not just sit around and wait. If that entails danger, so be it. Oh, when we get to... wherever... if I just sit somewhere alone and mumble to myself, I'm thinking. Disturb me if you like, because I'll remember all the good stuff." Hail smiled a little. He took off his trenchcoat, drapping it over his arm. It wasn't much that he was hot, it was to show everything he brought to the table. Covered with a black t-shirt and camouflage-forest fatigues, something he had gotten because he had planned to join the National Guard inbetween his Junior and Senior year of highschool, Hail was rather lean. More or less, it was to show Reason all of his armaments, one of which she had already seen, the pistol she had not, which sat in his right pocket. He wasn't all that muscular, he was built more for endurance, but he was rather fit. Hail wasn't hot at all. The guy was a fencer; if he couldn't handle a trenchcoat now, there was no way he could have handled hours in those hot, white suits.
- Hail hoped the other tribe-members were this nice. It'd certainly help keep everything organized. He also hoped he didn't have to do some instruction ahead of time. Hell, he'd probably do that anyway, just being himself about the matters. Silent commands, how to mesh as a team, stuff like that. "Should we get going?"

Reason nodded, more to herself than anything, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. She was trying to tack together a list of who could possibly be planning something and where and when they would meet. Maybe, if Hail dropped a few hints that he wanted to be part of the rescues, someone would take him into their confidence and tell him about it. That way, he’d be in and Reason wouldn’t have to start ferreting out the schemers. Of course, she could organize the team herself, but this way whittled out those who wouldn’t give their hundred percent. This was pure volunteer, this was.
The Cigarettes beta spoke slowly, to make sure she got everything right the first time. “Okay. I’ll introduce you to the tribe when we get to the Castle – that’s base, by the way, Castle Smoke – and I’ll see to it you get Axel to show you around. I know he’s a part of this.” She paused. “Drop a few hints that you want to help get Seraphim out and he should tell you if he’s got a plan.”
She drew a deep breath. Here was the risky bit. “Go with them, follow them, whatever. Get them to listen to you – if they don’t tell them its on my authority.”

{Sorry if I'm holding you guys up, it's just a bit difficult to think of some way to reply with my charrie ^^;}
Rose was still listening, though she didn't know why. None of it made sense, and she had a feeling that she wasn't supposed to be hearing it, for some reason. It sounded very secret. But of course, she would never betray her tribe. She was rebellious by nature, but she was also loyal and trustworthy. Besides, she wouldn't have remembered a word of it.
She sighed and turned away from the pair to stare out at the wrecked buildings. Everything looked so damaged, like a decaying skeleton. Not the most beautiful area. Then again, there wasn't much other territory to claim, was there? She supposed that it must have looked fine and grand at one time, though it wasn't so anymore.
Very welcoming people these Cigarettes, she thought sarcastically to herself. Rose couldn't stand it any longer. She wanted to be noticed, at least a little. Even if it meant being a bit bold. "Um... I'm not sure if I should be hearing this..." she said quietly, though her statement was audible.
She glanced away briefly, eyes glinting mischieviously. "Who knows... I might turn on you... after all, I am new." She hoped she wasn't being too bold, and she hoped they could see the taunting and ignorance in her eyes. She just wanted attention, and she wasn't sure how they would take it. Were they deathly serious about this stuff, or could they take a joke every once in a while? Even if they thought of her as an annoying attention seeker from now on, at least she had made herself known.
