Anne growled again at the newcomer's yelp, but kept still. The feeling Vox brought with her was much different from Reason's; it was a calming, soothing emotion, an open graciousness and friendly care. Her voice also helped the girl relax, memories of the song overwhelming those fiendish eyes burning in front of her. At the mention of dancing, however, Anne cowered again, as if the mere name scared her more than her soul could bear. "I won't dance anymore", she rasped, huddling to the wall.

The Cigarettes' healer shook her head and smiled. "Yes, you will, and I'm going to make you if you refuse.", she smiled and walked up to Anne, warping an arm around her waist and helping her back on that 'bed', if she would. She sat her there and sat by her side. She smiled at her and grabbed her wrist, pulling that hurt hand to her. She watched the swollen fingers and frowned a little. "Well, they are a bit better, but you shouldn't move them.", she then pushed herself to the floor and watched her legs. She tipped her head to the side and massaged them softly, trying to find the vital spots of the legs, remembering something she had read from a book about ancient Chinese anatomy.

Reason returned to the cell, hovering nervously in the doorway. Her copper hair hung in her face, but she couldn’t be bothered removing it in case the movement distracted Vox. Everything the healer did looked so delicate and perfect, it made Reason feel clumsy – Reason could aim and squeeze the trigger of a gun without missing, but it seemed a feudal art compared to fixing people. Of course, Reason knew the body helped out a lot, but letting it heal unaided was risky at best.
As it was, Reason simply watched, feeling fascinated. She knew from experience that Vox was good – shooting one’s self in the toe at point-blank range hurts – but this was a whole new level of healing. This was a healing of the mind, too, and it was amazing to watch. It seemed as though Anne’s face lifted from its somber mask and became almost calm again, just at Vox’s presence. Had Reason become so hard that she no longer felt kindness in a person?

Anne didn't flinch at Vox's touch. In fact, the kindness of the girl seeped into her bones, calmed her down a bit. She surrendered herself to the healer's treatment, her breath, pulse and mind calming down by the second. However, when she felt a strange presence in the cell, her head swiveled around, and her eyes locked on Reason, a look bursting with anger and hatred. Not for the Beta, not for the tribe she represented, but anger nonetheless.

Vox immeadiatly felt her tense up, and looked behind her, to Reason. She frowned like a scolding, caring mother, and sighed, shaking her head softly. "She will not hurt you, Anne.", Vox assured and smiled up at Anne, while she kept massaging her leg.
Although modest, the girl knew very well what her voice could do, therefore she started singing a simple, yet pretty, soothing song, pushing her thumbs caringly into the tense muscles of the leg, as if trying to find where it would hurt and heal it slowly. She had her soft hair pulled on a ponytail, so that her hair wouldn't give her any kind of troubles as treating Anne. Trying to calm everyone down.

Reason coughed, one hand over her mouth. She was nervous, her eyes fever-bright a she huddled in the doorway. “Uhm, Vox? Could I have a word with you?” She asked, her voice having gone back to Daisuke’s again, because she liked the softness and the cool, casual emotionless-ness. It was completely different from that of Anne, who’s voice was hot and cold at the same time – that scary mix of cold disdain and heated hate. A little like Reason’s father’s voice, really, when he was debating.

Vox arched her eyebrows up and looked over her shoulder, to Reason. Then sighed and nodded patiently, slowing down her massaging and helped Anne lay down on the bed. She smiled at her and kissed her forehead, brushing her own hair behind her ear. "Rest, okay? Resting is very important for your recovery.", Vox smiled and ran the back of her fingers caringly on her cheek, before standing up, dusting off her knees and turning her back to Anne, walking up to Reason. She smiled that kind smile of hers to the Beta and placed a hand on the small of her back, pushing her away from Anne's cell, but nearby enough for Reason to 'control' in a certain way Anne's behaviour - and herself too, so that if she tried to stand up or needed help, she would be there.

Reason nodded, rolling the end of her dress into a knot and glanced at Vox. “Did anything happen to Anne that Seraph and Rattlesnake didn’t tell us about? She seems utterly terrified of Seraphim. Just now I used his voice because – well, I just did,” Reason said, her voice not betraying her nervousness. “And she was terrified. I’m afraid Seraphim may have done something horrible, and I wouldn’t put it past him, not since Serenity, but it seems so unlike him. He’s honest with me, most of the time, and I don’t think he did anything wrong to her. Not that would make her so terrified.”
Reason motioned emptily, lost for words to describe what she felt. She trusted Seraphim with her life, because she knew that deep down he was more brave, intelligent and good than anyone gave him credit for, but this had rocked the beliefs she thought couldn’t be rocked anymore. He’d broken her trust, and it had hurt her. Maybe it was the same thing that had happened to the Vampire girl? Men were so complicated, so hard to understand. It was no wonder that most of the Tribe leaders were female.

Vox looked up at Reason and then blinked, confused. She brushed some hair behind her ear and placed her arms in front of her stomach, holding her elbows with the opposite hands, rocking back and forth on her heels, trying to think if there had been something. But the girl wasn't a medium, she couldn't know for sure. "I... don't know, Reason.", she confessed, chewing her bottom lip while glancing at the floor. "I'm not sure, that is.", she tugged on a strand of hair and curled it around her fingers nervously. "I think... Well... She is very hurt - and I'm not talking about superficial wounds.", Vox said in that tender tone of hers, looking at the other Cigarette. "Anne... Do you know anything about her? We just know she's a Vampire?" Vox whimpered and knitted her eyebrows close, sad. "This is turning out to be a nightmare, Reason!", she let her head fall to her chest. "Seraphim... with the Vampires... I...", she sighed and looked away. Outside, some yells could be heard, but she didn't pay attention to them. "I... Reason...!", she looked up at her, with those eyes of hers shinning with tears. She placed her hands on Reason's shoulders, as if needing support to stand up. "Reason, we have to get him back. I know Seraphim, he's not evil. None of us really is. We're just lost. We can't let Seraphim alone with the Vampires, we just can't! We all make mistakes, you make them, I make them, Seraphim makes them, but we always deserve a second chance, a third chance, perhaps!"

This is not good. Not good at all. Somebody shut the yelling off, I can’t concentrate. He’s just in exile – there’s heaps of exiles out there, they all survived the Vampires this long. If doesn’t want to be seen, he won’t be seen –
Oh. Sh.it.
Reason nodded slowly, her imagination clicking into place next to her reality drives – Seraphim wasn’t in exile, the god-damned moonstruck idiot was feeling sorry for himself. He wouldn’t concentrate, not the sate he was in, and the Vampires would have him. Oh, goddamnit! This was why the Cigarettes almost never went out on their own – only Seraph, Daisuke and Reason ranged alone far out of the ghetto. They always came back, until now.
“Vox, gods, you’re right. We need to do something.”
Reason wrapped her hands around Vox’s wrists, supporting her. Ideas already formed in her head – spectacular rescues, or a trade between Anne and Seraph. Blowing up half the building, storming it and rescuing Seraphim that way. Need to calm down. I’m being impulsive – I realize why Seraph called me that. Let me think. Breathe, Reason, Breathe. Cope with it.
“We know nothing about Anne. Our only hope for getting more information about her is via Pixie or another Vampire, and even they might not know. Can you ask her about her past? We need to know what happened in there.”

Vox smiled up at Reason and hugged her, affectionate as always, glad to see that Reason wasn't being impulsive and was starting to think rationally. The girl nodded at her request and broke away from her, tapping on her nose softly, playfully. Outside, the yells were still being heard, and longer.
"Ooiiii! Is there anyone with a match around heeeeree?"
"I will try.", she promised, placing a hand over one of Reason's. "Please think of a way to rescue Seraphim. You know the Vampires are... You know... The Tribe of Mina - her faithful Beta, Sven...", she sighed, but then smiled. "I'm sure you will find out something, Reason.", she smiled, before walking back to the room. The first thing she would do was to scan for Anne. Spotting her, she would sit down by her side and smile, running her fingers through her hair softly.
"How are you feeling?"

"There. You see, Annie? No reason to fear." A seven year old Marguerite pivoted on her place, ten feet from the ground, and grinned down at her younger sister. Three-year old Anne giggled and clapped her hands. Marguerite climbed down the ladder and joined her sibling, looking up. "The wire looks higher from here, but it's no big deal. You just have to believe you can do it, and you will. We can fly higher than the birds, Annie. And I plan to do it with you." The younger girl opened her eyes wide. "It's very high..." Marguerite smiled again. It was wondrous, that smile of hers. So comforting and reassuring; it was all Anne needed. Her sister reached out and took her in her arms, cuddling Anne's face with her own. "Come. You'll grow up, sweetie. And we'll fly together."
Anne blinked twice and looked at Vox from the bed. Her left hand itched, but the overall pain was slowly subsiding. You didn't get to be an acrobat without bruising yourself a few times – although never in the conditions Seraphim and Rattlesnake had imposed her. "I'm... okay. As good as it could get, I think." She stole a look at the door, fearful of Reason – more of her voice, in fact, but Anne couldn't avoid it. Not after what had happened. "What are you going to do to me?" she all but snapped.

She smiled sweetly at the snapping, as if not even noticing it, and placed her hands on her lap, after having brushed a strand of her long hair behind her ear. "We mean no harm to you, Anne. I promise that I will not let anyone of the Cigarettes lay a finger on you. Please forgive Reason, she... she has a lot of pressure being put upon her right now. I'm sure she didn't mean to startle you.", she stood up, smoothing her dress with her hands, before turning around.
"As for your question... Being totally honest, we're not sure. I mean, it's not up to me to make these decisions, I'm just a researcher and an improvised nurse.", Vox smiled sweetly, a little embarassed. "Although, we do want to rescue Seraphim. He, he's a good person, really.", Vox said in that pretty voice of her, the honesty could even be heard. "Seems that, you and him didn't start with the right foot?", she tried, wanting to know what had happened.

Anne repressed a sneer. Her ribcage hurt too much for that. And after all, Vox had helped her. "It seems your Tribe did a great job on not harming me. And I'm not afraid of... Reason..." her voice quivered and faltered. She closed her eyes for a moment, frowning. Then raised a questioning eyebrow. "Rescue Seraphim?" she asked. I lost myself midway through this. What does she mean? And him being a good person... Well, everyone has opinions. The girl cringed. "You saw what happened. Everyone did. That's all." Her voice dripped acid, interlaced with strings of half-hidden pain.

Vox seemed to be imune to the girl's biting tone, just looking peacefully at her, as if she understood what she was saying. The girl smiled softly, bowing her head, before tilting her head to the side cutely and watching Anne.
"Anne, I can see past the obvious.", she smiled and shrugged lightly. "You were hurt. In both body and spirit. Why in spirit, though? What happened? I just want to help you, Anne.", she sat next to her again and knit her eyebrows sadly. "Please."

Anne closed her eyes again and shook her head, warping her arms around her body in a crooked way due to the wreckage of her left hand. "Nothing. You saw what happened. They beat me, that's all. And that's enough." She was fighting to keep her voice from quivering, but by the end she almost gagged in her own words. It was best to keep silent, to prevent the flood of tears from coming. Where are you, now? Where are you when I need you most?

Vox frowned and brushed some hair behind her ear, looking up at the ceiling, before sighing. "Okay, I believe in you.", she said, but not really being honest - however, she would rather tell a little white lie to calm Anne down, than forcing the answers out of her. Vox wasn't like that, for it would go against her morals to hurt or force someone to do something. She then leaned in and whispered to her ear quietly.
"But I still promise that I'm making you dance again.", she pulled her head back and smiled at Anne, running the back of her right index finger over her cheek.

Anne shrugged and shied away from Vox's touch, shaking her head one more time. "The dance is over..." she muttered, sighing deeply. She gripped the sheets of the bed with her right hand, twisting them forcefully. Calm down... I can go through this... She decided to change the subject. "You talked about rescuing Seraphim. What happened?" Her tone was a mix of concern - for herself, in truth - and slight disdain. What had the Master of the Cigarettes got himself into this time?
