"Ophilea! Where the f*!@ are you?!"
Ophilea Ash hid inside her bedroom's closet. She wasn't scared... okay who was she fooling? She was always scared when it came to her father. He had been drinking again, he was passed out when she came back from school. Came home from hell with florescent lights to hell in a trailer park. She hated living here, hated living with him. She wanted to go to New York and find her mother. The one that had left her with this alcohol abusing bastard. She pushed herself further back in the tiny dark closet as she heard her father open her bedroom door. She slowed her breathing and hugged her legs tightly as she rested her mouth against her knees. She'd learned a long time ago how to stay quiet and unnoticed.
"Damn girl. Ain't worth nothin' to me. Nothin'!" He slurred drunkenly.
She'd heard that and worse before. She really needed to get out of Wisconsin, far away from him. If he found her she knew what he would do. He'd kick her or hit her or worse... she couldn't take another day of it. Of course none of her friends knew. Not that she had many. But the close few she did have had no clue to what her personal life was like. She waited in the closet for hours waiting until she knew he'd be passed out again.
Once she was sure it was safe she opened the closet door and packed a bag quickly. She then tip toed out of her room and into what one would call a living room. The TV was on Fox News channel and when the anchor women mentioned New York she stopped. Seeing as that was where she was headed she might as well be caught up with what was going on there. It must be something big if it's on a major news network. Later she would have wished that she'd just kept walking. She heard everything they knew about the Black Plauge... everything. And she knew somewhere deep down that she'd never find her mother. She stood there for a while, too long. Her father woke up and she realized that she missed her chance to run.
~Months later~
I'm lost inside this sheltered forest.
The one that was supposed to protect me.
I think I'm failing this test
And I'm blind to what I should see
Am I gonna be gone forever?
Will someone rescue me? -Ophilea
She had slipped something in his drink. He would be out for a while now. She knew her father didn't need any help from a drug to be unconscious but she'd rather be safe then sorry this time around. She tried to run once and she failed, it would not happen again. She'd not pay that price once more in her life. She only had a backpack with her this time. She slipped out of the trailer glad to be out of it, knowing that it would be her very last day in that eternal hell. The tribes of the old New York had to be better then this... right? She was sure they were. She had to do something to get away and she was sure that this was the only option that was possible right now. She still had a long way to go but she was sure that she'd be just fine.
