[Name >> Ellery "Geist" Hastings
[Age >> 12
[Gender >> Male
[Tribe >> Vampires
[Rank >>
[Nationality >> German
[Politics >> None.
[Romantic orientation >> Unknown [hasn't expressed interest in either gender]
[Appearance >> He seems to have been bleached from head to toe; washed out tones of white, gray, and black making up his being. His hair, presumably blonde, seems nearly gray, and hangs limply in front of his face. The eyes hidden behind the faded locks are gray as well, although they hold just the faintest hint of blue.
Geist is small and waifishly thin, with skin bleached of color save for the twin smudges under each eye. His clothes are shades of gray and white, and he seems to have at least one change of them. His normal attire, however, is a long, patched up tee shirt over a pair of courdory pants. The former hangs past his knees, while the latter are rolled up and heavily patched. In colder weather he dones a cut down, ancient great coat of oilcloth; despite having been modified for his petite frame, it still trails behind him on the ground and he is forever pushing up the sleeves.
[Attitude >> He doesn't speak much, if at all, and no ones really sure if this is due to a lack of understanding of the english language, or just simple anti-social behavior. Quiet at all times, he prefers to communicate via impromptu sign language, nods or shakes of the head, and other movements. He's friendly enough, tending to follow around the less aggressive members of his tribe and watch what they do. Curiousity tends to get him into trouble, but quick thinking and his uncanny ability to sneak in and out of nearly anywhere tend to get him back out of it.
He's a notorious packrat, and not above adding other peoples possessions to his collection. He might act innocent and cute - and at times he is - but he's actually quite mature of his age and completely aware of all of his questionable actions. After all, how many twelve-year-olds carrying hunting knives? And how many more know how to use them?
[Notable History >>
He was vacationing with his family in the state when It happened, travelling his with mutti and brothers when the bombs struck. It wouldn't have affected him at all, would have just been another calamity on the news, if the bus they were travelling on hadn't driven off the road one week later.
Out of a passanger manifest of 26, only 4 survived. Among these were Geist, an older boy he came to know as Dust, and two young women who'd been on their way home from university. Dust was Canadian, roughly 15 or 16 by Geists estimates and quite used to caring for himself. Geist was nine at the time.
After the accident, when Geists parents were long cool in the morgue, Dust took care of him. For a while it was the standard living in alleys and hostels, panhandling and pickpocketing to cover food, and generally scrapeing by on whatever they came accross. Dust taught Geist to steal, hide, and defend himself, and in return... well, Geist was never sure what Dust got out of the deal. Perhaps he just wanted company, someone to call family... but, whatever his reasons, he took care of Geist.
They first heard about the kids running wild in New York over the ancient black and white TV in a church basment, and Dust was immediately hooked. He wanted to go where there were no police busts on the abandoned houses, places where they could scavenge without being interupted... He wanted to be with others like them.
Geist followed him, from hitch-hiked ride to sneaking onto buses and trains, down towards the dead city that they hoped to call home. Unfourtunately, this was when Dust disappeared.
Geist never found out what happened to him; he woke up one morning and found Dusts place empty, with no trace of his friend and mentor. He spent two days searching the small, nameless town, but in the end he cut his losses and moved on. Without Dust the going was harder, but he'd learned well.
Four days later he was on his belly, crawling through the razorwire fences.
