Name: Cyril L’Amarr
Alias: Grey
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Weapon(s): Knives, strangling wire
Tribe: Wharf Rats
Rank: Hunter
Nationality: 3/4French and 1/4Chinese
Politics: liberal
Romantic orientation: bisexual
Appearance: Standing at about 5’4 and weighing roughly 134lbs, Cyril is a small framed individual. Originally born with pale skin, exposure to the sun has given him a slight golden tan. He has delicate features including a thin nose, slim lips and high cheekbones contributing to an androgynous appearance from afar. On closer inspection he is clearly male.
Despite his eyes being an unusual shade of pale grey they do not stand out significantly, perhaps due to the fact grey is more of a neutral colour. They have a tendency to change colour due to surroundings, going from pale-grey to grey-blue, grey-green or dark-grey. Upon close scrutiny it is noticeable also that his eye shape is slightly slanted, sign of his Asian heritage.
Cyril’s hair is a honey-blond shade that lies messily across his eyes, its cut in slight layers, being shorter at the front and longer at the back. The longer strands are slightly wavy. The longest strands reach his shoulder and are occasionally pulled back into a low-ponytail.
Coming from a well-off family he enjoys dressing smart—or as smart as he can afford to in New Pork. Normally seen wearing black pants and a white long-sleeved dress shirt with a navy colour vest over it. He has two other colours he wears- light blue and green worn with jeans. Attached to his upper thigh on both legs is a leather knife belt, but he does not always carry two knives. When handling wire he equips a pair of gloves to keep himself from getting cut with it. Simple black flat-sole shoes complete his outfit. He also keeps small oval-specs for reading.
Attitude: ‘Book smart, street stupid’ sums up most of Cyril’s character. He enjoys reading and learning being good at it but being raised in a shelter home left him unprepared for the ‘real’ world. Then again, there was perhaps nothing his parents could’ve taught him that would have prepared him for New Pork. He lacks the cunning, street-wise and ruthless edge that most of the other Wharf Rats posses.
However that is also why it makes him a rather invaluable member to them. With his honest, straight-forward demeanour his task is usually to look after the newest members of the tribe. He would also be the one person to send out if there was a need to negotiate with other tribes. Despite his lack of ‘street-cunning’ he is not bad at reading people, a skill which has allowed him to survive by staying away from those he feels threatening. Even if he suspects someone Cyril wouldn’t be able to predict their actions to well, his gut instinct would simply let him know something or someone was wrong/dangerous.
Cyril is one to gain people’s trust not just because his attitude but also because of his lack of involvement within the tribe’s more dangerous politics wars and willingness to keep most information that reaches his ears under wraps. That is unless they threaten his mistress or beta.
It is important to note also that he carries weapons mostly for defence and show rather than actual usage. Although he was taught basic fighting upon his entering the tribe, he has never been able to hold his own in a knife fight. As a result he has never killed, tortured or maimed another human being, the thought makes him rather ill. However he is an excellent swimmer.
His careful choice of clothing signifies Cyril to be a vain creature, but despite his vanity the major motive for this is the fact he was raised to be conscious of first impressions. Hence his careful clothing and easy-going smile to ease off suspicions. Naïve and a little idealistic at times, he requires protection and lacks the physical strength to back himself against stronger opponents.
Notable History: Cyril was born in Marseilles, France. His father being a respected business man travelled constantly all over the globe, and before Cyril’s birth his mother accompanied him but then she settled permanently in Marseilles with her son. He gets his Chinese heritage from her, his mother being the daughter of a Chinese immigrant and a French woman.
He has a little brother by name of Altair, who is seven years younger. Where Cyril came out more ‘French’ his little brother definitely shows clear signs of his Asian heritage, with smooth raven hair and black eyes. Initially feeling the natural jealousy of not being the attention of his parents, he did grow to adore Altair.
Growing up in a loving family into a well-adjusted teen, the only time issues ever came up was when it came to his sexuality; Cyril discovered a preference for men and admitted it freely to his parents. His parents were both shocked and horrified, and began pushing him to date girls. Disappointed at this riff he pretended to like girls more and dated them, discovering that he did indeed like girls too, though preferred guys.
Never quite trusting his parents as much after that he managed to get back to their good graces and persuade them to send him and his brother to a summer camp near New York for the summer instead of their usual trip to Greece. While they were there the plague hit. They made plans to return to France but those were never completed as among all of the confusion and paranoia the two siblings were separated.
Looking frantically for his brother in the area for a while and unable to find him, Cyril refused to return home without him. After hearing rumours of children in New Pork, he made his way north, sneaking through the wire fence. Scrapped, starved and bruised was how he was picked up by the Wharf Rats.
Recuperating and adjusting to New Pork took him little effort, mostly because Cyril didn’t really change. Maybe because the only thing that really keeps him going is the hope of eventually returning home with his little brother and as such he has hope to cling onto, no matter how bad things seem at times. Part of him does whisper… that he is never going home and it is that side that strives to make this place as ‘homely’ as possible.
True to his name meaning, lord or master of the sea, Cyril loves the water. Since he was little he has spent time in the beach, swimming pools, lakes. It’s the one thing he finds completely freeing and liberating even in New Pork, unless he is needed he tends to be out on a small boat, swimming or just sitting and reading a good book. (Or rereading a good book as the case might be.)
Reputation: For being trustworthy and diplomatic, also someone who is harmless and probably referred to by those who dislike him as idiotic and naïve.
