“No, Rattlesnake, not this time,” Seraphim said with something of his authority back in his voice. He wasn’t going to break down now that Rattlesnake was awake – that was one child he wasn’t going to loose face in front of, ever, even if it cost him his life. There was too much enmity between the two by now for anything to fix it short of God coming down from heaven and making them Siamese twins – which would still be something close insane of God, as they would probably still kill each other.
“George – tell the Vampire how f.ucking noble I am,” Seraphim hissed, sarcasm dripping. He wasn’t noble – he didn’t even pretend to be noble. He thought everybody knew that so well they would even make a sarcastic jibe at his lack of nobility. He was offering her freedom which he should of known she couldn’t accept because he felt guilty, and as long as she was in Castle Smoke, he’d feel guilty about it.

"Noble, you?" Rattlesnake burst out laughing. Dancer seemed frozen where she stood, her left eye casting darts of hatred at the two Cigarettes. "My lady, you cannot guess how noble our leader is. Remember when he beat you in the hall? That was a noble gesture, to show you how delicately he controls the power he wields. And when he defended you from me a while ago? Oh, my lady, he was a gentleman, standing aside and watching while you and I had a nice talk. "Noble" is his second name, right, Seraphim?" He looked back over his shoulder. During the speech, Rattlesnake had moved closer to Dancer, and was now cracking his knuckles with a demoniac smile on his face. The girl didn't twitch a finger, but shot a long, dirty look at Seraphim. Then she closed her eyes, bracing herself for the blow to come, as Rattlesnake pulled back his right fist.

Seraphim twitched. That wasn’t quite how he’d intended Rattlesnake to react, but he’d made his point – Seraphim being noble – or anything other than angry and selfish – was about as rare as a blue lobster, so to speak. That was to say, nobility and Seraphim were almost antonyms. Seraph knew it, but it couldn’t be said that he really cared – much.
“Rattlesnake, not again – she can barely stand,” Seraphim said. “You almost make it seem as if you didn’t disprove of what I started – you just wish you could’ve beaten me to it.” It was a jibe, and insult, if Seraphim had ever uttered one. He was saying in his own language something along the lines of, ‘pick on someone your own strength,’ which, although he didn’t realize when he opened his big mouth, was him.

Rattlesnake let his hand drop and turned slowly, still with that sickly, psychotic grin on his face. "What do you mean, Seraphim? You are defending the girl? Noble indeed. Maybe you can take her place, then. Let's finish what we started, and hope your dear Reason doesn't interfere this time.
Behind him, Dancer opened her healthy eye, wobbling. Without a word, she moved back to the wall, leaning on it. Maybe those two would kill each other, and then she would have some peace. Why had Reason locked them with her, anyway? To check which of them would get her in a worse state?

Seraphim watched her draw back before removing his hands from his pockets – lighter in one hand, knife in the other. He cocked his head to one side as though curious, then tossed the lighter at the girl, smirking at Rattlesnake although he addressed her.
“If he comes near you, just burn his d.ick off, eh?” He said, and his knife flicked open.
Oh, so his opponent was unarmed? Did it look like Seraphim was about to care – I think not. We’ve been over this before – fighting in this circumstance isn’t at all based on honor, or skill. It’s based on tricks, lies, cheats and having an advantage over your opponent.

[Great - she can be buried with mine, then.]
Dancer acted more by reflex than anything else, catching the lighter in mid-air. [*Cough* Serenity *Cough* Lighter *Cough*] She nodded absently at Seraphim, then started to work out her muscles. Her body was a mass of swollen pain, yet she had to help them back to normality. It would take a long time before her skills were back, so she had better start now.
Rattlesnake's eyes flickered at the knife in Seraphim's hand, but the rush of adrenaline through his body registered the weapon on a corner of his mind and went on without pausing. Howling, the boy threw himself at Seraphim, trying to push him to the ground.

Seraphim stepped sideways like a tripwire, holding one leg out to his side and bringing the butt of his knife down where Rattlesnake’s head should be. Seraphim barely registered whether or not the Vampire caught hold of his lighter or not, but it was out of his hands now – she could certainly stoop down to grab it now that Rattlesnake’s attention was diverted to Seraphim and his attitude problem. Seraphim was quick, even with a painful ankle and a pounding in his head.
And, of course, Seraphim liked to fight. Not the because he was cruel or some such stupid reason, but because it woke him up – made him move, use his muscles, think and plan, at the same time. There are few pastimes that can give one such a complete feeling of wakefulness, and fighting is on of them. It helps, of course, when you’re the one with the upper hand – you’ll probably win, but you still have to work to get there. That’d the adrenaline rush.
[Serenity had one of Seraph’s lighters, yeah – is that a problem? ^^]

[No, not at all, quite the contrary ^^ *Cough* I'm getting quite tired of these fights - testosterone factories...]
Rattlesnake's forward motion was hard to slow down; he tripped on Seraphim's leg, yet managed to avoid the blow of his knife by rolling to the other side. Snarling at his opponent, he looked around for something to be used as a weapon - the chamber pot. It stood by the girl, yet if she didn't interfere it would be easy to grab. And if she did... Well, she could take another lesson. And he would make sure she learned this one.
Dancer watched the Cigarette searching and realized he had fixed his eyes on the chamber pot. You won't touch me again, scumbag. She stood between Rattlesnake and his target, lighter on her right hand - it was a ridiculous stand against an opponent of his size and bulkiness, but a stand nonetheless.

[This is going to have to go one way or another – Rattlesnake defeats and beats Seraph, or Seraph defeats snakeman and holds him for Dancer to punch. You pick – I’d like to see Seraphim beaten to a slightly red-tinted Jackson Pollock, but yeah.]
Seraphim moved sideways, shadowing Rattlesnake – here we go again with the testosterone overdoses. Of course, this time Seraph had the idea he had something to fight for other than sheer dislike of his opponent – he was, he told himself, defending himself and the Vampire – although she looked like she was going to hold her own and didn’t need much saving this time around. Was that surprise I registered on Seraphim’s face, that she was defending herself – with a lighter?

[Uh-oh. She is defending herself with a lighter... There's no much hope in that, in her condition. And Dancer bites the dust again... There you have your Pollock ^^ I tell you, it's freaking weird to be fighting with yourself!]
Rattlesnake sniggered. "Come on, sweetie. You don't want to get any more bruises than you already do, do you?" Dancer didn't even blink, but lighted Seraphim's lighter. Rattlesnake sighed in exasperation and kicked her legs from below her; she fell on a heap again, passing out, lighter falling a few inches away from her face. Rattlesnake just stepped over her and grabbed the chamber pot, turning again to face Seraphim. "Now... Where were we?"

“I was about to show my other noble side and beat the stuffing out of you,” Seraphim said, having moved forward with the intent of stopping Rattlesnake’s blow to the Vampire, but paused before he got that far, as he was obviously too late. He twitched and watched his lighter skitter across the floor. He supposed it was a weapon you had to practice using before you were any good with it – the range was, after all, pathetic – until it touched clothing.
“Or you were going to teach something – either way. Each to his own preference.”

"Hmm, that noble side. Can't say I'm too impressed with what you have done so far, noble knight", snickered Rattlesnake. "Go on, do your job. Attack me. Or are you afraid again?" Rattlesnake stepped once, closer to Seraphim, swinging the pot on a hand and clenching the other. "If you wait long enough, Reason will interrupt our talk again, and we don't want it... Do we?" His face was contorted on a rigid smile and slightly cocked to on side, as if to protect the spot where the Beta had shot him.
On the floor, Dancer twitched briefly - and was still again.
[Stupid - asthmatic - useless - creature - called - muse. Fething two hours of sleep, too. Anyway, I don't envy Reason when she returns to the cell - these three are not exactly happy to have been locked together, it seems.]

A smile flickered briefly over Seraphim’s face. He stepped sideways, his long, dark hair cascading down his back and rippling as he moved. His shoulders were tense, but the rest of him seemed curiously relaxed – which would have been strange in this situation if it wasn’t for the constant twitching of Seraph’s right hand – indicating that he was, in fact, tensed. He was simply pretending to be relaxed, trying to pretend that he was underestimating his opponent, although if anything, Seraph was overestimating Rattlesnake.
Seraphim had to be careful – the chamber pot had a long reach, and could easily knock his brains out. He had to get Rattlesnake either by surprise or from behind – neither of them easy. Unless – Seraphim began took a few steps to one side, aligning Rattlesnake’s back to the Vampire’s fallen figure. Now, if Seraph could just drive the other boy back to trip over the girl…

The boy was smiling! The shot to the head probably had messed up Seraphim's brain. Even though there wasn't much to jumble, anyway. Grinning back, Rattlesnake mimicked the moves of his opponent - until he felt something against the heel of his left boot. Casting a quick glance at his back, Rattlesnake understood. Seraphim was using the body of the girl to distract him. His grin widened as, facing Seraphim, he simply stepped on what his boot had touched - Dancer's left hand. There was a sickly crunching sound and the Vampire jerked violently, still down. Rattlesnake chuckled, reveling in her suffering.

Seraphim twitched – his plan wasn’t working. The idea had been to make Rattlesnake trip over the Vampire’s spread-eagled body, but apparently all he’d managed to do was break a few bones in her hand. That hurt – he’d seen people with splitters of their metacarpals sticking out of their palms – luckily, Rattlesnake probably hadn’t broken the Vampire’s fingers that badly, but all the same – it would have hurt.
“Oh, very elegant,” Seraphim said snidely, his dark eyes focused on Rattlesnake’s face. Any sign of a weakness, and fear, anything to give away how Seraphim was to make it out of them with his nose / fingers intact.

"It is, isn't it?" The psychotic smirk never left Rattlesnake's face. "There - are you going to attack me, or you prefer to wait until I grind all her bones to dust? That wouldn't be so hard, I guess. Especially with a noble knight like you protecting her, Lucifer. Fallen angel. That was a great fall, indeed. Reason dumped you here. That's how much she respects you, leader. Somehow, I don't recall Serenity ever being locked in a cell by her followers. Was that a problem of hers, or is it you, Seraphim?"

[This is odd. I'm hyper. o.O]
Seraphim growled, but he wasn’t going to fall for it this time. He wouldn’t let Rattlesnake’s prattling get to his head – it would make him do something stupid, if he listened to it. That was something he couldn’t afford to do, not now – not now he had to do something to redeem himself in his own eyes and those of the Vampire girl having her fingers ground to a fine dust.
Rattlesnake’s reference to Seraphim’s nickname amused him, in some strange way. He hadn’t come up with it – Serenity had. She’d found it somehow amusing that he could be named after the highest rank of angels, (one Seraph, multiple Seraphim,) and still a demon at heart – so she named him after a fallen angel, who, incidentally, shared his name with the first matches. She found herself extremely witty, while Seraphim didn’t really think he needed another biblical name, or another nickname which made reference to his pyromania.
“If I’m doing so badly at this leadership lark, maybe you should take my place – oh, no, wait,” Seraphim paused, flicked his gaze to and from the chamber-pot, “You don’t want to lead – too hard for you?”

[I slept two hours today. Believe me, I'm hyper. And tomorrow I have a whole day of congresses on Biological Engineering (Geez, now it sounds important). I'd better not to think about them.]
Rattlesnake snickered. "Not too hard - too stupid. Who would want to take care of a bunch of bloody kids who don't have any idea about what to do to survive? And you keep losing them, letting them die at the hands of scum like these." Not taking his eyes off Seraphim, he started to move around Dancer's body. The girl was breathing in shallow rasps, showing no sign of awakening. "We have one less bloody hand to care about", he remarked bitterly, edging dangerously close to her other hand. The left one was beginning to swell and turning black and purple, a few bones visibly out of place. "She wouldn't like to have different colored hands, would she? Better to eliminate that difference." His foot was hovering above the Vampire's right hand.

“I hate you, God,” Seraphim muttered to himself, “And I hate my conscious, too.”
Seraphim tackled Rattlesnake head-on, lunging at him with a wordless snarl on his lips and way too much adrenaline pumping through his body. His feet left the floor as he threw himself at the larger, stronger figure with the intent of pushing him back against the wall – and then stabbing a him a few thousands times with his switchblade. This was just too much – the girl’s fingers – the bones – f.cuk, they were almost out of painkillers as it was and he didn’t know what Reason and ‘Vox’ could do to fix the Vampire’s fingers.
In that split second before Rattlesnake either crumpled or dashed Seraphim’s brains out, time seemed to freeze and Seraphim’s brain went into overdrive. He knew what he was doing was so hypocritical it was almost madness. He hated the Vampires more than the rest of the Tribe put together – and now, now what? He was defending one? He wasn’t letting Rattlesnake disfigure the hands that left bloody marks on the wall and on the faces of comrades slain in the middle of the night.
God, Seraphim decided, was teaming up with his conscious to pull the sickest practical joke in history.

Rattlesnake howled wordlessly as Seraphim lunged at him - at last. This had taken way too long, and he wouldn't stop without blood-shedding. Seraphim's blood. He forgot the Vampire - she had fulfilled her purpose already - and braced himself for the impact, lashing furiously with the chamber pot at where his opponent's head should be at the lunge.
[Hmm. Good time for Reason to step in, no? And I found it - Snakeman kills my muse. Idjit.]
